Our Environmental Commitment
Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children. - Kenyan Proverb

Proud mountains, clean air, pine forests, and sparkling snow… without these our hotel wouldn't be noteworthy. Instead, Treasure Mountain occupies a magical place with a unique view on what it means to be clean. We strive to provide the amenities you expect while minimizing our hotel’s impact upon the Earth. To do this, we enthusiastically recycle, support wind energy, encourage water conservation, serve organic foods, encourage public transportation, and give back to organizations that protect and preserve the natural environment. The outdoors is not just a livelihood for us; it is our passion. We invite you to live lightly with us here, so that our children might learn the truth about us--as witnessed by the trees, testified by the mountains, carried by the wind across miles and years--retold by the fire, storm after winter storm.

Some specifics on Treasure Mountain Inn’s green practices:

Recycle: Treasure Mountain Inn has an extensive recycling program (started in 1996) which includes paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, tin, newspaper and cardboard. Recycling centers can be found at each entry point, in the lobby and in each room. We also sort our garbage for additional recyclables. Our amenities are packaged in recyclable tubes and made from recycled materials. All TMI paper products are made from recycled paper. Our recent carpet purchases are of recycled and recyclable carpet. Treasure Mountain Inn has been awarded twice as the Utah Business recycler of the
year (2005 & 2006)

Reduce: TMI has significantly reduced our energy consumption by retrofitting the hotel with fluorescent lighting, installing EnergyStar appliances, installing motion sensor lighting, high-efficiency heat and cooling systems, and removing our pool. We further reduced our water consumption by installing water-conserving shower heads, faucets and toilets. Treasure Mountain Inn also encourages guests to re-use their towels, bed and linens. In the public areas, we installed waterless urinals in the Men's bathroom which are conservatively estimated to save 40,000 gallons per year. Moreover, the Inn has reduced paper consumption by streamlining paperwork, emphasizing electronic documents, on-line banking, reducing paper sizes, dual sided printing, and emphasizing digital vs. print marketing collateral. When paper is required, TMI uses only recycled paper.

Offset: The Inn purchases about 35% of its electric as Wind Power making it a Visionary level partner in the Utah Blue sky Program. Treasure Mountain Inn is also the first Utah hotel to go carbon neutral by offsetting its remaining carbon footprint--estimated to be 593.6 tons-- with Carbon Offsets from Clean Air-Cool Planet (facilitated by Native Energy). Treasure Mountain Inn is an EPA certified Green Power Partner.

Other: Due to our central location, we strongly encourage guests to leave their cars at home and to take advantage of Park City's free public transportation. Groups requiring Food & Beverage are treated to homemade foods made with mostly organic and natural ingredients. Our on-property café also offers a wide variety of organic and vegetarian dishes. In addition to earth friendly shampoos and soaps, we use bio-friendly cleaning products whenever available. In 2006 we replaced our aging pool and Jacuzzi with a therapy spa that utilizes an earth-friendly salinity system. Our landscaping utilizes indigenous plants irrigated by an efficient drip irrigation system. Half our management staff walks to work and the only business vehicle is a hybrid. Treasure Mountain Inn was the first Utah hotel to be selected for the Eco-Orbitz travel website.

Giving back: Treasure Mountain Inn is a member of the Green Hotel Association and the first hotel to join 1% for The Planet. 1% For the Planet is an alliance of businesses committed to leveraging their resources to encourage a healthier planet. Members pledge to donate at least 1% of their revenues to environmental organizations. Since 2004 we have given over $62,000 to our corporate partners: Conservation Alliance, Mountain Trails, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, The Access Fund, Utah Open Lands, Utah Nature Conservancy, Utah Sierra Club, Utah Rivers Council and Vital Ground.
